Canada's U17 National Team has started their U.K. tour with an emphatic win over the Yorkshire U16's. Captain Sawyer Herron and #8 Hayden Evans scored two trys a piece, as the Canadians put in a performance that Head Coach Jim Delaney was very happy to see. Coach Delaney sent us this description of the day's events.

The U17 team started game day with a light morning training session back at Kirkstall training grounds, this time on the academy fields in the shadow of the old Kirkstall Abbey.

Kirkstall Abbey is a ruined Cistercian monastery in Kirkstall north-west of Leeds city-centre, in West Yorkshire. It is set in a public park on the North bank of the River Aire. It was founded c.1152. It was disestablished during the Dissolution of the Monasteries under the auspices of Henry VIII in 1532.

The team has settled in to the routine of the tour – “Sleep – Eat – Rugby – Eat – Rugby – Eat - School Work – Sleep” Their efforts in team building are continuing and they are getting to know each other; several of the players had not met until this week.

After a quite restful afternoon it was off to Tuesday night’s match. The game was held at the Huddersfield YMCA, another excellent facility and ground with its busy sports complex.

The field the game was to be played is a full size international pitch. The players walked the field prior to the game and used this time to assess the weather conditions and its possible impact on how they would play the game. They returned and were amazed by its size.

Tuesday's game was an important test of their progression, as it would be the first time they would be playing together as a team. They were a little anxious just before the kick-off but soon put that behind them and ran in a performance that every parent would be proud of.

Final Score: Canada U17 (43) v. Yorkshire U16 (24)

Canada Tries: Herron (2), Evans (2), Hogarth, Best, Sears-Duru

Canada Conversions: Hall (4)

Canada Penalties: None
